500 vital votes for YES

The Young European Federalists welcomes the decisive vote of the European Parliament yesterday with 500 votes in favour of Corbett-De Vigo report that sets out the European Parliament's position in favour of the European Constitution.

"Such a positive YES to the Constitution is excellent news," stated Jon Worth, President of JEF-Europe.

"MEPs played a vital role in the drafting of the European Constitution through their role in the Convention; their positive and detailed endorsement of the Constitution is of great importance."

"This follows ratification of the Constitution in Hungary and Lithuania - a great start to the campaign for a YES from all EU Member States."

JEF-Europe will be participating in the YES Campaign in favour of the European Constitution coordinated by the European Movement International and set to be unveiled 19th January in Brussels.

"The future of the European Union is very much at stake in the 11 referendums that are planned over the next 18 months," continued Jon Worth.

"As pro-Europeans committed to the goal of a European federation, we will wholeheartedly state the case in favour of this Constitution as a welcome step towards the democratisation of the European Union."
